The Kenneth Quartey Trophy stands as a heartfelt tribute to one of the most respected figures in Ghanaian polo and a cherished member of the Accra Polo Club. Born on 13 February 1961, Kenneth Quartey’s life was deeply connected to horses and the sport of polo, a passion he carried with pride and dedication throughout the years. His commitment, leadership and love for the game left a lasting mark on the polo community in Ghana and beyond.
Kenneth served several times as Captain of the Accra Polo Club and also led the Ghana Polo Team, roles that reflected the trust and admiration he earned from fellow players. Under his leadership, Ghanaian polo gained visibility and respect on the international stage. He proudly represented Ghana in countries such as England, Ireland, South Africa and Nigeria, where he remains fondly remembered within the wider polo fraternity for his sportsmanship and character.
Following his passing, the Kenneth Quartey Trophy was generously donated by his family as a way to preserve his legacy and celebrate his lifelong contributions to the club and the sport he loved. More than just a competition, the trophy symbolises excellence, unity and respect for tradition within Ghanaian polo.
The tournament will take place from 10 to 15 February 2026 at the Accra Polo Club, in the heart of Greater Accra. It promises to be a meaningful week of sport, remembrance and celebration, bringing together players, families and supporters to honour a true icon of Ghanaian polo.
