When it comes to travelling, one of the most important things — and not something to leave until the last minute — is your travel documents. Having your papers in order not only ensures a smooth trip but also protects you in case of any unexpected issues.
Before leaving your country, make sure your passport is valid (with enough time left according to the country you’re visiting). Check if you need a visa or any special permit to enter your destination. If you’re travelling to Latin American countries, some accept national ID cards, but not all.
Make both digital and physical copies of your documents: passport, ID card, plane tickets, hotel reservations, travel insurance, vaccination certificates (if required), and even your COVID-19 vaccination card. Keep digital copies in your email or cloud storage, and carry printed copies separate from the originals for safety.
One extra tip: write down the contact numbers of your embassy or consulate in case of emergencies. And if travelling with children, remember they also need passports and notarised permission if they’re not travelling with both parents.
