Before the 20th century, only professional photographers could capture images during travels, due to the bulky and complicated equipment. Everything changed in 1888 when George Eastman launched the first portable Kodak camera with the slogan “You press the button, we do the rest.” Suddenly, any tourist could immortalize their adventures.
The popularity of cameras grew rapidly, and thus the tradition of travel photos was born. From portraits in front of the Eiffel Tower to selfies atop a mountain, cameras forever transformed how we remember our travel experiences.
